Last Saturday, April 18th, was a day to remember as two long-serving members, Phil Sutherland and Paul ‘Taffy’ Evans, both recorded a hole in one on the 7th during the Monthly Medal. With the black tees in play and a back pin, it made the feat even more impressive.

Phil was first to strike, opting for a controlled three-quarter 6-iron after some earlier overswinging. His shot landed just left of the flag, took a couple of bounces, and rolled straight in. It marks Phil’s fourth hole in one, adding to an already outstanding record that includes one at Caloundra and two on our club’s old 9th hole. A special mention to Phil’s playing partners, who combined for a birdie and two pars, making it three-under for the hole.

Not long after, Paul had his moment, waiting 42 years to make his first ace. His trusty rescue had his group thinking he’d hit it too long with a search party looking behind the green, but it proved to be the perfect line and length, finishing in the hole for a well-earned ace.

Congratulations to both Phil and Paul on a remarkable achievement.
