Well officially this is my last “From the Course” update. After a battering of rain and wind I’m happy to say the course is starting to resemble a golf course once again. Trying to keep on top of the roughs seems to be a constant battle.  No sooner have we finished mowing a hole, the grass is already growing behind us!!!  We have been applying Primo (growth retardant) to all surfaces (except roughs) which has helped incredibly. Unfortunately, with budget restraints there’s no possible way we could apply it to all of the rough every month!

The greens are mint.  I’m very happy with their recovery from our annual renovations.  They are firm and true and if this rain ever stops, we might be a chance of getting a roller onto them and start to get their speed back. They were absolutely pure for our Blitz event held a couple of weeks ago.  Considering we had no lead in time for the event with Christmas and boxing day playing havoc with working days I could not be prouder of the course and the condition that my maintenance team produced. Well done boys, you guys are legends and our 12hr days paid off!!!

It is with real sadness I say goodbye to all my staff and to the members who have supported me for the past 6 years. I really loved the course and the challenges it threw at me every day.  We’ve come a long way from what I inherited to what I leave you with today.  The course now is honestly one of the best in Brisbane and is gaining that reputation from everyone I speak to in the industry.  Membership has more than doubled since I started, which is the ultimate compliment to how good a job myself and the team have done during my tenure.  I still get a buzz driving on the concrete cart paths knowing what was here, the first time I drove around the course and one day I hope to see the job complete. I am very proud to have been a part of taking Oxley Golf Club to the next phase and wish everyone involved all the best in taking this great club even further into the future.

I confidently leave the course in the very capable hands of Luke Nowlan who has been my 2IC for the past 3 years. Luke will continue to improve the course and all the playing surfaces, I have no doubt about that. Luke also loves the ropes on the 6th hole and the improvements it has made and he is already talking about the 13th and 14th holes too!!!!! HA HA HA YOU BEAUTY!!!!!

I thought I’d leave you with some photos of my journey……………

All the very best.
