FROM THE COURSE………

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded the coldest May for the past 75 years, hence the reason for the shutdown of growth on course and the start of the Winter programming jobs being carried out, now June is upon us. Winter means the one percent jobs can be executed now that rough cutting has all but ceased and fairways are back to being mowed once a week.

The driving range shelter has received a face lift with a new lattice screening installed, tumble stone rocks now make up the flooring & the entire area boxed in with railway sleepers. Two coats of mission brown paint later and the old structure has gone from the out-house to the penthouse overnight!

The practise hitting bay nets have been replaced with new netting. The old nets were showing signs of age and fatigue with more holes than the N.S.W. origin defence line!

Our gardens around the putting green have also received a tidy up. Lots of pruning, shaping, weeding & mulching have now made these areas far more appealing.

Special thanks to our volunteers for the edging of all our concrete paths and all the other jobs you do here every Tuesday. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

On course everything has slowed down………………except for the greens! They are firm and fast with some of our regular pin positions now classed as “no go” spots for Winter. I do apologise for the recent front pin position on the 9th. It was a shocker and slipped in under my guard unnoticed. In response, I had all greenkeeping staff putt to that location with 4 balls each, none of which stayed on the green……….. lesson learnt!

In the months ahead we will look to continue with the small makeovers & tidy ups on course. These include gardens, tee stations, shelters, & paths. The quotes have been summitted to the board for this year’s cart path construction. As soon as we get the go ahead, we will begin work.
